About Unvow
Unvow is a US family law publication providing clear, primary-source-based guidance for people navigating divorce, custody, support, property division, prenuptial agreements, and adoption.
Who Runs Unvow
I'm Alexander Lam, Founding Editor of Unvow. I'm a software founder and digital publisher based in Toronto, with a background in product, web performance, and building information-dense online tools. I'm CEO and co-founder of Hyperspeed, a software company that has helped Shopify stores load faster and rank better in search since 2018. Earlier, I co-founded Scent Trunk (featured on Canada's Dragons' Den). I'm a Queen's University B.Com. graduate, and I'm reachable on LinkedIn.
I am not a licensed attorney. I do not provide legal advice, and nothing on Unvow constitutes legal advice. My role is editorial: I'm responsible for the structure, clarity, accuracy of presentation, and editorial standards of the publication. The legal authority on this site is the licensed family law attorneys who review our content. They are listed on our contributors page, with their bar admissions, jurisdictions, and the articles they have reviewed.
Why I Built Unvow
I've spent over a decade building digital products and helping businesses make information online easier to find and faster to read. When I started looking into US family law — an area that affects millions of people every year — I found a landscape that was either dense statutory language inaccessible without legal training, or thin, generic content optimized to capture search traffic and funnel readers into paid consultations. The primary sources — state statutes, court rules, official child support guidelines — are all public. The distance between those sources and the people who actually need them was the gap I wanted to close.
Family law touches some of the most consequential decisions a person makes: about money, about children, about the structure of their life. Unvow translates the public legal material into clear explanations, with citations back to the primary sources, so that readers come to attorneys better prepared and to courtrooms less confused. It is not a substitute for a lawyer. It is meant to make the conversation with a lawyer shorter, cheaper, and more useful.
How Our Content Is Made
Every guide on Unvow is built on primary legal research. We prioritize official sources: state statutes and family codes, judiciary websites, official child support guidelines, court forms and filing instructions, and government agency publications. When primary sources need additional context, we consult state bar association publications and legal aid organization resources. The process is documented in our sources methodology.
Articles that have been reviewed by a licensed family law attorney carry a visible "Reviewed by" badge naming the attorney, their credentials, and the date of review. Articles without a badge have been drafted and editorially reviewed but have not been individually verified by a licensed attorney — these are clearly distinguishable. Our review process describes the full pipeline.
